Trip Highlights

Our hiking trip will take you to an area of the Rockies designated as a World Heritage Site by the United Nations for its incredible, breathtaking panoramas, flowered alpine meadows, sub-alpine forests of larch and fir, cerulean coloured lakes, blue tinted glaciers and snowcapped mountains.

The showcase feature of our hike in the Cnadian Rockies is Mount Assiniboine [3618 m], known as the Canadian Matterhorn, and is the highest peak in the southern Rockies.

We begin our Rockies hiking adventure with a spectacular helicopter flight into the heart of Mount Assiniboine park. Our hiking days and campsites will be filled with commanding and breathtaking views of the Mount Assiniboine region. Each day we will hike to a different viewpoint in Mount Assiniboine park to create memories that will last a lifetime.

We have no hesitation in guaranteeing that, in Mount Assiniboine park, you will see some of the most incredible scenery anywhere in the Canadian Rockies.

ITINERARY

Day 0: Arrival in Calgary, Alberta.

Day 1: We will leave Calgary for a 3 hour drive to the trailhead at Shark Mountain. Our gear and selves will be transported by helicopter into Assiniboine Park. This is a dramatic opportunity to see some of the most incredible scenery in the Rockies. We will get our gear and camp at Lake Magog, at the base of Mt. Assiniboine, seventh highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. You will quickly understand why the area has been designated as a World Heritage Site.

Day 2-5: We will Lake Magog as our base to explore the surrounding region. The guides will lead you to Nub Peak for one of the best views of the area. On a clear day you can see four passes, three valleys, four lakes and an endless number of peaks. We promise you a panorama today that will blow a hole in your hiking socks. We will also hike to Mt. Cautley and around Lake Magog to see where climbers stage their assent of Mt Assiniboine. We have also arranged to enjoy an afternoontea and cakes over at Assiniboine Lodge.

Day 6: We're on the move again. We will leave Lake Magog and follow the scenic Wonder Pass route. It is a gentle climb from Lake Magog to Wonder Pass. The trail passes through larch forest and beside Lake Gog. After gaining the summit of Wonder Pass, we will begin to descend into the valley. There are great views of Marvel and Gloria Lakes during the descent. Eventually the trail parallels Marvel Lake until it reaches the Bryant Creek flats. There is a cabin [if available]here where we will establish camp.

Day 7: We will have a short hiking day today. The hike is very easy, following Bryant Creek to Spray Lake and then on to the Watridge Lake parking lot. Part of the route served as the cross-country track for the Calgary Winter Olympics. From here we will return to Calgary before going our separate ways.
